Business Email Compromise: CEO fraud that carries no malware, just a believable email.

BEC does not exploit software: it exploits trust. An email that looks like the manager requests an urgent transfer, and it works. That is why authentic email must be verifiable. WebMon provides the layered defense that makes it possible.

In short

What is Business Email Compromise?

What it is

BEC (CEO fraud) is a targeted scam in which the attacker impersonates an executive, supplier or partner to induce a funds transfer or the sending of sensitive data. It rarely includes malware: its weapon is a convincing email.

How it works

The attacker spoofs the domain or uses a look-alike (typosquatting), studies the organization and launches an urgent, plausible request. Authenticating mail with DMARC, SPF and DKIM, plus filtering and threat intel, cuts off the variants that rely on faking the sender.

Who it's for

Companies with payment and supplier processes: finance, manufacturing, commerce, real estate and government across Latin America, where a single fraudulent transfer can mean severe losses.

What problem it solves

It reduces fraud that relies on forged or look-alike email. When your domain cannot be spoofed and suspicious mail is filtered, the attacker loses their most effective way to deceive your team.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why is BEC so hard to detect?

Because it usually carries no malware or malicious links: it is just a believable text email. With no obvious technical payload, many filters let it through, which is why sender authentication is key.

Does DMARC stop BEC?

DMARC stops BEC that directly spoofs your domain. On its own it does not cover look-alike domains or compromised accounts, which is why it is combined with filtering, threat intel and payment verification processes.

Why does authentic email matter?

Because BEC lives on trust in the sender. If your domain can be authenticated and verified, a forged email in your name is rejected, and payment decisions stop relying on appearances.
